Saw the same thing today. i procrastinated on shooting a big heavy 3 and my opportunity slipped pretty quick. there was another buck with the doe as well but he slipped away clean haha.

I missed a buck like that on Sunday,  had its nose up a doe.  Got a bad range with the range finder and shot under it.   Had 10 minutes of watching it at 40 yds before it gave me a broadside shot.   Was definitely rutting.

Millerwheeler, Honestly is that how it works?  You can retrieve an animal from someone else's property, even if they object, as long as it was shot legally on another property?  I might have to have the right some day.

You definitely “don’t” have every right to retrieve it... even though you should. The property owner could refuse access even if a game warden was involved.

I've been told you need to try to contact the landowner, and if they won't let you retrieve the animal, then you need to contact WDFW, and they'll try to talk the landowner into allowing them to retrieve it. I don't know what WDFW does if the homeowner still refuses permission.

its not complicated...doesn't matter where you shoot it...it it runs on someone else's property you need their permission to recover it.  doesn't matter if WDFW is involved or not--if it winds up on their property it is theirs to decide what to do with it

Yes you must make an attempt to contact owner and if they won't let you call fish and game guess I should have clarified  . I have been in this situation a couple times and always been fine

Negative  if there is a blood trail and proof was shot on huntable land and goes on private if homeowner won't let you retrieve call game dept it most definatly  will be decided in your favor been there and know of many cases like this  but keg is blood trail and able to show was taken properly

Had bucks chasing does in my yard today. I think they are one the second round. But most the bucks are mature, the little ones have seemed to vanish.

If you shoot a deer and it goes on private property, you can only pursue with land owners permission. Get the game dept involved, what will happen now is, if they chose to not let you persue, they must tag it themselves or be cited for Waton waste of the animal.

 Funny  thing I was just looking for this post . And I learned as if this year even if there is a blood trail.property owner can say no . During early archery I eat He d a guy 21yard shot hit a beautiful buck in the butt !!!! Watched deer run run run and run he finally bedded far away into private the guy made no such attempt at the buck . I felt bad went and knocked on owners door  no answer called warden and was speaking to him as owner pulled up . Well I learned  the landowner hated bow hunters for this reason and said no.  I didn't understand him.wanting it to go to waste  called warden back and he said as of this year it's his choice as land owner . . Later that night did see buck hanging on his porch though so glad it was t wasted and  learned a few things

If the landowner refuses access, WDFW has the option to write a ticket for wastage to the landowner.  Seen it happen.  I got to continue to hunt.

seems hard to believe they could cite a homeowner for wanton waste of a dead animal they didn’t shoot. Heck if they don’t have a tag they couldn’t legally harvest it! If they were ticketing people for that I bet the reason they stopped is cause it was not holding up in court.

seen it happen this year elk hunting. Guy shot a cow and it went on private property and the property owner refused permission even WITH the warden there trying to convince them ! Nothing the warden or shooter could do but walk away

You got time. The next 10 days are peak rut for BT most of the time. Late buck falls right on the tail end of the peak rut usually.
