Blacktail rut's not *quite* over...
« on: November 29, 2018, 02:45:14 PM »
... at least, not in my backyard.

If my neighbor wasn't such a ... well, let's just say that if we had a better relationship, I might be filling my archery tag. That buck's been out there for the last hour. Won't get more than 20 feet from the doe he's with.

Ya, well - I've never left my doe either. And my rut activity continues year-round.  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I missed a buck like that on Sunday,  had its nose up a doe.  Got a bad range with the range finder and shot under it.   Had 10 minutes of watching it at 40 yds before it gave me a broadside shot.   Was definitely rutting.

Millerwheeler, Honestly is that how it works?  You can retrieve an animal from someone else's property, even if they object, as long as it was shot legally on another property?  I might have to have the right some day.

You definitely “don’t” have every right to retrieve it... even though you should. The property owner could refuse access even if a game warden was involved.

My understanding is that it's more complicated than that. I've been told you need to try to contact the landowner, and if they won't let you retrieve the animal, then you need to contact WDFW, and they'll try to talk the landowner into allowing them to retrieve it. I don't know what WDFW does if the homeowner still refuses permission.

I think the property owner wins in the end.  He can let it rot if he desires.

Saw a forky chasing a doe around this afternoon.  Haven't seen them chasing this late before.
