What do you cook with?

Used to pack around a 2 burner propane coleman stove.... Pretty much the standard issue camp stove...

Switched over to a single burner primus and a cast iron dutch oven and fry pan, cook in the fire most of the time whem I have a fire going

Then bought my alaknak so when not in bear country I jist put the cast iron on the woodstove

Looking to get a backpacking set upand have been exploring options.

My primus is a backpacker stove albiet an unrefined basic butane burner.... Also have a backpacking gas lantern/lamp which I absolutely love, but gotta carry gas...

Anybody use a jet boil?

Considering just using what I got and buying a collapsing solicone set of pots and pans and plates, pretty low profile...

Seen some ultra basic cook stoves made from a tuna can that burn alcohol or stove fuel or white gas...

So much gear on the market....

I run a jet boil, but may consider getting the campchef version if I needed to replace it for some reason.

Its handy having everything stow in the cup, but mine doesnt cook well with a pan on it, I basically just use it to boil water.

Got 5 good years out of mine and counting. There are lighter options out there but for simplicity and convenience it’s hard to beat. I don’t cook with a pan when backpacking though it’s mostly boiling for coffee and House

When backpacking I bring a can of stew. First night the stew goes in a pot and the can becomes a stove that burns twigs. Redneck, cheap, whatever, it works and it's light and I like canned stew.

Jetboil Flash. If you’re backpacking, no pans needed (just a titanium cup for coffee, maybe titanium bowl for oatmeal).  It’s freeze dried chow on the mountain brother, just need boiled water.

Those are two amorous friends who came to camp for a couple of nights and then helped me break down camp. There's a nice kitchen in that trailer and the BBW outside.

I also have a jetboil, I also have the pan and pot for it. It has all worked well for me.
I don't generally pack the pan or pot, but have used them when camping out of my jeep.
there are lighter and less expensive options, I'd buy a jet boil again if needed.

also the spoon tucks in between the stanley cup and the bottom cup keeping them tight and rattle free. 

If you need pics I'll show you my setup ready to pack, it works well.   The jet boil is probably quicker to boil water but meh   whatever.

I like this kit, couple items could be upgraded for not too much money but I know this works fine.  I just dump hot water into a bag and don't bother with the green plastic cups that come with the stanley so I ditched them.

I have a few different stoves. For personal backpacking I prefer the MSR Pocket Rocket and ti cup or similar pot, more versatile than a JetBoil and have always hated them for no good reason. For bigger backpacking groups I have an MSR Reactor, Coleman single burner, MSR Whisper Lites, and a few others over the years.

For big groups in a campground I have a Coleman 2 burner cylinder stove that gets most of the use. Looking for a bigger unit now, maybe on of the Camp Chef stoves.

I've got the camp chef and 100's of lbs of iron to go with it.   From dutch ovens to big griddles, it all collects dust in the garage.  It's too heavy so I skip it. 

Now for RV camping or bigger groups I just carry the coleman road trip, so much easier to lug around although it doesn't have that wall tent feel

I have a few MSR stoves, (whisper lite, simmer light, dragon fly), but for ease and convenience I usually grab my jetboil for backpack trips.

I use a pocket rocket and a snow peak titanium pot/lid setup. I’ve had the pocket rocket stove for over 10 years and have had no issue with it. You can easily get one for around $12 on Amazon.

For the size and price i think it’s well worth it. I haven’t burned any water yet

I got the same exact set up. Take it with me everywhere.  It is only slightly  a bit heavier than a jet boil and you maybe gotta wait a extra minute for it to boil.  Tested this side by side with a jet boil. If you could spare the weight I would go this route over jetboil anyday. I do envy the sleeve on the jetboil cups though lol.
