Bow and arrow upland bird hunting
« on: November 22, 2018, 06:39:10 PM »
Quick question, is it legal to hunt upland game, specifically phaseant and chukar, with a bow?  If it is legal, do you have to wear hunter orange?  Reading the regs, it looks to me like you can hunt them with archery and since you arent using a modern firearm, you dont need orange.  Am I reading things right?

No matter the law, the orange isn't meant to keep you from shooting yourself with a gun...

Lol, well yeah I know that... I'm purely talking about the legality of the situation.  Keep intelligence out of this equation.

Haha, I just don't want to see you get shot.

I am unsure of the laws but quail with the bow would be a ton of fun!

Lol, no dog either.  I just bow hunt deer in an area that has a lot of pheasants and ive always wondered if I could throw a judo point on an arrow and bring some extra meat home.

I saw a video clip on face last week of a guy shooting clays with a longbow.   Pretty cool.   Not sure how many attempts it took to film the clip. Lol

I know for a fact you can hunt waterfowl with a bow, so I'm fairly sure upland is legal too. The orange is an upland requirement, so your have to have that on.

I've whacked some geese and grouse with a bow, but pheasants and quail would be a whole different thing. I think it would be beyond difficult.

If you're not allowed to own a firearm, maybe you could consider a caplock shotgun? Those are regulated differently, right?

Can you provide the rule that states that orange is an upland requirement?  If you are hunting with a modern firearm, it is required but it's not a blanket statement for all upland hunting.

Adam,

I don't know for sure where it says it in the pamphlet, but I did see on the wdfw site the other day that upland hunting with bows DOES NOT require orange.

Its on the hunter orange requirement page.

Just wanted to update anyone paying attention. I was wrong earlier.
