Crossing into Idaho while hunting question
« on: December 06, 2018, 03:47:40 AM »
So hypothetically let's say im hiking into a bear area and part of the hike passes through Idaho briefly. I would have a bear tag for Washington. Unlikely to run into anyone but wondering how Idaho would look at it. Any opinions?

Not sure why there would be an issue. You're free to carry a firearm in Idaho anytime you want, for any reason.

It would be just like when I hike into the Alpine Lakes Wilderness in September to hunt deer. I'm carrying a rifle but until I reach the wilderness boundary, I'm in an area that is not open to hunting deer.

That's kind of what I thought. Just seemed like it could be one of those gray areas. Thanks.

When my son was hunting the youth tags in Washington we hiked through Idaho to Washington all the time and he was too young to have an Idaho hunting license. I have also hiked through  montana to hunt Idaho and hiked through Idaho to hunt Montana. People do this all the time. With onx and all that you can do it with a lot more confidence of being legal too as far as being in the right state!

If you're hunting that close to the border, and the bear you shoot runs into Idaho to die you could have a problem on your hands. ;)
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

What would be worse is a corner jumping bear  :yike:

I accessed through Montana for my Wyoming mountain goat in 2000.  We took photos at the kill sight showing the northern background in the event MT FWP got interested.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

I know a guy who traps in Idaho and goes into Washington to access his trapping spots. He's even shot a wolf near the border in Idaho with zero problems...Pictures tell no lies...........or at least try and keep you honest.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Don’t shoot a bear on Idaho & you’ll be fine. I think phone cameras tag the picture with gps data if you want to document the location.

We were goat hunting one year and if we shot one in this particular area the best retrieval route seemed to be driving up to BC and coming back down on a logging road for retrieval.
