If anyone thinks they are going to take the apocalypse as an opportunity to catch up on their hunting and fishing, I've got bad news.

If the cities are evacuated (which they probably won't be), then hundreds of thousands of refugees are going to start pouring into the rural areas and the very first thing they are going to do is kill absolutely every wild animal they come across.  If you are hunting anything, its going to be dogs and rats.

Being killed by a lunatic in this new Mad Max world of ours is actually pretty far down the list of dangers. Disease, exposure and thirst are going to kill way more people than bullets.

What are they going to kill with, they hate guns.🤔

I'm not taking any guns, ammo will be the money of the future.  I have a truck loaded with 223, 9mm, and 7.56 ammo.  I'm planning on defending it with angry Grandmothers, nothing gets by them.  I'll feed the grannies with zombie meat to keep them onry.

That’s why the thoroughfares should be closed first.

You mean the freeways? Those are how relief efforts are going to move aid around. They will be open or the National Guard will open them.

Actually, it is an interesting thought about a mid caliber(.24-.30 caliber) high end air rifle for armageddon. If you have a couple thousand projectiles the propellant is endless. The guns can do plenty of damage. Have some replacement seals/O rings on hand and I am sure you can go forever. I think I just convinced myself to buy one. Anybody have any experience with these?

I doubt it. Some people might bug out to the hills, but the majority will stay put. What I said before was just a specific scenario.

But I do think it would be very counter productive for rural residents to shut down the freeways.

In reality, I do not think there will be a mass exodus from the cities.

I said that stuff before because I was trying to prove a point that I can't remember now.

Fair enough.  It wouldn't take much to close down PS thoroughfares.  Normal traffic pretty much sees to it.

Depends on the parameters. If I can use my vehicle Im taking everything I can pack, AR's, Bolt guns, shotguns Ect. But assuming Im limited like I'm on foot. AR 5.56, Sig p320 9mm and throwing my plates on. Going to try and stay as light as possible but still be able to throw crap down range.

So you don't know what you're talking about...good news is no one really does in subjects like these as no two Apocalypses are the same.

If I were on the west side of the Cascade crest I'd be worried about a massive earthquakes, eruptions and tsunami (and all the above at once)..that would be my #1 mass kill off scenario.
In such a scenario roads will probably be impassable, if a big enough quake hits and the dams go and hills slide...well.  /shudder

Every location has it's issues and threats.

For national collapse due to overwhelming social disorder it might be better to be in a urban area, you will get aid.  Those out in the country will be the last to get government help as they'll triage by population density.  This could be a good thing *if* you're out in the country and able to deal with it...helloooo fishin n huntin!   but I think most people living rural will not be able to cope with a collapse.

For global WWIII I think the nation will come together like post 9/11 and set aside our differences, there might even be a soft coup as with Truman and MacArthur, the latter disobeying orders and taking North Korea..which put China into the fray.

As an aside..If you think Mattis leaving was a big deal....
On 11 April 1951, U.S. President Harry S. Truman relieved General of the Army Douglas MacArthur of his commands after MacArthur made public statements which contradicted the administration's policies.

Whatever power play that happens will happen and the whole nation will be in a war footing, we're talking a revival of the US Sedition act, national curfew/martial law, conscription (draft) the whole works.
