OTC Idaho Elk tags
« on: December 07, 2018, 09:14:11 AM »
So looking at the Idaho regs, 2019 non res elk tags for some units  are available to buy as of December 1st. So if you buy one now, can you still put in for a controlled hunt later?

That's awesome,What units since you already have that info?I hear a lot of hunters are getting their tags for WA. early to beat the price jump also.

Yes, but you'll have to relinquish it to buy the other tag if you draw. If you're looking at a unit with a limited quota for OTC then your better off hedging your bets now and buying one. If it's a unit that falls under "All other units" your pretty safe holding off buying the OTC tag until after the draw results are out.

Makes sense. Now to decide?

I am looking at 2018 regs but a call into IDFG will tell you which units and how many tags. So far what I have looked at its the same as last year.

I'd not plan on much changing unless it's a hard winter. A heavy winter kill or crop damage might change things up but there hasn't been any whispers of any sort of sweeping changes. If you archery hunt there's some units you can hunt OTC but are draw only for rifle. It's a good way to learn a unit and make the most out of the draw tag when you get it.

The ones that sell out right away have. The others generally are available into august but seem to be moving a bit faster this year. Remember the available generally go way up at the start of August when guide tags go back into pool.

I hope they keep the one buck only in 10a again this year, looking forward to going back in a couple more years.

Called IDFG today. OTC elk going quick. Two units I wanted are sold out. Another unit I am considering with 2380 tags available only 200+ left. As 10:00 a.m.
