It was a busy week cleaning up from elk hunting and getting meat processed before I had to take off again for my Nevada hunt. I had made the decision that I still very much needed to fill an Idaho tag before the general season so first stop of my 9-day vacation was Idaho.  I got very lucky on this particular trip because my good buddy JonathanS selflessly offered to go along with me since it was originally going to be a solo trip.

It was a mad dash to pick up Jon and hit the open road.  We drove straight through the night to get to the trailhead and then a long trek up the mountain and into the glorious idaho backcountry!  It was a relatively short hunt. The first evening of glassing produced very little. The following morning we were in position as the sun came up. Immediately Jon spotted deer.  While it was not my buck with the big back Forks there was a respectable deer in the group so we planned our approach and we were off! Those deer did not cooperate however but luckily our stock put us in a position to make a play on a completely different group of bucks. A little repositioning and I had an opening for a good shot and I took it.  A few quick pictures and some handy knife work between the two of us and we were heading back to fetch camp and then bomb down the mountain so we could get on the road from Nevada!

It is foolish and wrong to mourn these men.  Rather, we should thank god that such men lived.  -General George S. Patton

Were you in the fecal fetal position when it happened?
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
