You should see how the industry put up fur for the ranchers. 
They charge the ranchers $1.00 to flesh and board mink.
Very impressive, It's all done by air and water.  They put them on a mink fleshing tube and water blows off the fat and meat.
Than they hand board them.  Yep, all for a $1.00 and it is done around one minute..

I caught 4 escapees when I was trapping up river from Astoria one year. They are huge and they were almost coal black.
 Almost as big as a small otter.

Anyone know what they do with the carcasses? Sell off to be used for cheap dog food? Zoo animal fodder?

Shoe grease and the rest gets ground up for fish food. Left over fish parts gets made into mink food. It's an endless cycle.

I have known a few mink farmers over the years.
I do know depending where they are raised, I know down south they are sold to the alligator farms and so are nutria.
Up around here, some go to the rendering plant and are turned into soap, shampoo, fertilizer, make up, etc..
Others are left out side covered with sawdust and turned into top soil.

As far as I know, none are turned into pet food.
