where i would really be is all over jason's winchester model 70 .270 in the classifieds for 375.00
stevens is a savage without accutrigger. thats where i'd be....hands down.where i would really be is all over jason's winchester model 70 .270 in the classifieds for 375.00or there was a couple $300 vanguards in there too.The Stevens 200 is a great gun for the money and if weight is one of your concerns, it comes in about 6.5 pounds. It was NRA rifle of the year in 2005 and is the best value for young people and those who want one all around rifle without spending $500+. I will be getting one in 7mm-08 later this year. Good luck and let us know how it shoots if you get one. I know of 4 or 5 guys who have them with no complaints.
I'd opt for walmart first. They have weatherby vanguards on clearance for $300 even. The M.V. had one in 7mm mag and 300wby as of last night...have the synthetic tan "speckled" stock.Next choice would be a Stevens. The plastic stock is junky, but you get the savage action and easy of swapping barrels. Good aftermarket support and a good track record. Can be had new for under $300 after tax.I also have a handi-rifle or two. Great shooters...my .204 will shoot sub .75" @100yds all day. The only problem is it is sensitive to how you rest it on the bags, and if you take the handguard off and don't torque it back to the exact same spec your POI will be off...a little or a lot...JMHO.
Bscman:Where are you finding the Stevens 200 for under 300 after tax??Thanks,Gad
