Late season archery 627

Who else still has a tag in their pockets? I haven't seen much sign in the last week (or seen any animals) so I am going full send in a few and going to a few deep pockets I found last year to see if there are some critters moving around back there. Am I dumb for thinking of putting 3 or 4 miles on boots each way? Still new to hunting (just started at the tail end of late season last year) and hoping to get an opportunity at notching my bambi tag this year since after 15 years in Washington the Navy sees it fit for me to transfer to Georgia this coming april for my last tour before retirement! I should have picked up this hunting thing earlier!!! But you are never too old, or it's never too late to try something new.... besides, 37 is the new 15 or something like that!!!!

Not crazy if it works    Late season can be tough as the deer don't tend to move very much. If you find a spot with fresh sign, live there.

On the plus side, Georgia has some fantastic hunting opportunities!

Do you care if you are in a stand, if not PM me, my doe's are non shooters but I have a couple big spikes you could sit on

Facts! That is what I have been searching for, but not seeing much this year... still learning a ton though, so I am absolutely enjoying the hunt anyway! And yes, I hear the hunting in Georgia is pretty decent. I have a few guys at my command who recently came from Kings Bay and they both said it's pretty good whitetail hunting down there with a huge yearly bag limit. They told me not to expect any size, but I'll make up for it with numbers... 12 deer a year (10 doe 2 bucks one of which has to be 4pt or better...or something like that) on a tag thats less than our general hunting permit up here! Thanks for the reply!

The Navy sent me to Japan when they heard I wanted to retire.  I'd take Georgia over Japan any day of the week.  I didn't start hunting till several years after I retired.  I missed out on open season hunts for caribou on Adak and pretty good BT numbers on Whidbey Is. along the way during my pre-hunting days.  At your age, I think you're just entering your hunting prime.

Good luck with the hunt. (I didn't know you could walk more than a mile or so in 627 before you're past the half-way point to the next road).  Lots of deer in that unit - never say die!  Mallard Masher's spot seems to be a great one - hopefully you get a chance to notch your tag.
