Collared deer in 454
« on: December 24, 2018, 07:18:01 PM »
I keep trying to upload a picture but this forum is so buggy with that and it keeps going to a white screen anytime I try. Frustrating.

Anyway, on a capture last week I got a large deer with a very visible collar with a black device attached. Anyone heard of that before?

Take a screenshot of the pic then post that.

Might be part of the radio telemetry BT study that Eric Holman at WDFW has going now.  You see these collared deer every now and again.  Poachers love 'em.

FYI If your screen goes white when posting a picture it means it is too large to post.   Resize and post again but I see you got it though

Why do poachers love them?

:yeah: We've seen quite a few elk and deer in 653 and 454 with collars. It's part of their predator/prey study.

I think poachers love any deer weather it’s collared or cardboard  :chuckle:

That, and the collar makes them stand out in the woods. Notice the OP stated that it was very visible.   A noteworthy portion of these deer in RT studies are lost to poaching during the course of a study.  Motor vehicles and predators make up the majority of the losses many times.

I just saw a collared doe in 117 the other day. Not sure how many poachers were proactive and capable enough to locate a deer via telemetry. Hoping it's a small number
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.
