A busy gun counter, especially in a chain store, is often more entertaining than a comedy club.
Boat launch is another good hangout.
One of my favorite summer lunch spots is Lakeview Drive In in Chelan.  They have an outdoor eating bar that overlooks the city park boat launch, which requires making either a 3-point turn with a trailer, or backing down an approach that curves right, then left down the ramp.  Hours of quality entertainment  :chuckle:

Redondo is fun too...  Run across traffic to a holding spot, then back around a 90 degree turn to launch.  Good times!

My buddies and I used to slay fish at the river or the lake then put the stupidest lure we owned on our poles and come back in to the boat launch. Sometimes people would ask "Did you really catch those with that tackle?" ... Sure did :chuckle:

That's awesome!  A loooong time ago in NW Montana, I hit the Kootenai River early one morning.  Caught a couple of nice rainbows at the crack of dawn, put em in the cooler, and was getting ready for some Kokanee fishing.  Saw a guy I knew pull up and park above me.  When he walked down and asked me how I was doing, I showed him the nice "bows" in the cooler.  When asked what I used, I picked my pole up out of the rocks and extended the tip for him to see.  I had tied on a big fur mouse (bass lure) I had in my tackle box when I saw the guy park and head my way.  After a minute of silence on his part, I couldn't take it any more and cracked up laughing  :chuckle:

Many years ago I was in Arkansas, the day before a canoe trip I fished the White River and kept a limit of rainbows for our dinner (tailrace coldwater fishery).  The next day my buddy and I canoed down a section of a typical warmwater river in NW Arkansas, had a blast catching and releasing bass.

We set up camp on a sandbar, and I was frying trout when a few locals pulled up onto the sandbar in a pickup to do some catfishing.  They did a doubletake on the trout in the pan, asked where we got them and I said we'd been catching them all day, couldn't find a bass to save our lives.  They were completely befuddled, I fessed up, and we had a great evening around a shared campfire, swapping lies and sipping their moonshine.

When the guy in the wooly chaps (I'm not making any of this up) asked where we were from and we told him New Hampshire, he said "dang, that's clear up there north by Washington D.C.!"
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Everyone knows 338’s are basically bazookas.  :dunno:

That's funny!

Also, it seems all these gun counter guys are all former military snipers and or at the least, "shoot competition".  Those guys are my favorites. LOL

When I was a kid we would tell everyone when caught our limit on hot dogs. One time a lady said oh no I don't have any hot dogs do you think sandwich meat would work?

Now when I fish tournaments I sometimes have fake lures tied to all my rods on the deck for everyone to see. When I get to my first spot I throw all those rods in my locker and pull out the real ones. If I do good then I put the fake ones back out at the end of the day.

We have a whole thread dedicated to the topic: "is a hotdog a sammach?"

I knew someone who grew up in Maple Valley and as a kid used to fish in the Cedar River watershed with his friends.

One day after fishing they stopped at a corner quick mart to get something to drink, and the owner noticed they had quite a few fish. He said he wanted to take their picture to post on the bulletin board to show other shoppers.

He snapped their picture with the fish and asked where they caught them.

"Well, umm, we caught them in the lake across the road there using marshmallows."

The owner posted the picture with information about the lake where the fish were caught.

My friend said he drove by the lake the next day and it was wall to wall boats.

I recently was at a gun shop with a buddy while he was purchasing a new sidearm. I was cruising through their used inventory looking at a couple savage 99s. The guy asked if I was looking for anything special and I told him I'd been passively looking for a good deal on a 99 in .308 as I wanted an open sighted rifle to pair up with my model 70 in .308 for hunting deer in thicker timber near my old man's place.

It didn't take him but ten seconds to set me straight with needing a 6.5 creedmore with a big ol scope on it so I could kill them elks at 1000 yards. I was trying to let him continue on his sales pitch but my buddy finished his purchase and had some lame excuse like "let's get back before dinner" so I didn't have time to throw all my money at him.

Work behind the counter and listen to the stories.
There's a whole lot more silly stories to be heard from the backside of a gun counter for sure..

I meet a lot of "experts" that have more knowledge than me.  Even when I explain things slowly they still believe they are right.  One good thing about meeting these people is it does make it easy for me to remember their names.
