I was checking out a DA revolver (38/.357 snubby) at cabelas. I usually try to buy at independent shops, but when I’m just looking I’ll swing by the cabelas counter. I’d been discussing with another customer, what may be a good first pistol. In my opinion that may be a DA revolver in 38 or a DAO 9mm etc, but to each their own. As I was leaving I overheard the sales guy trying to tell him a Kimber 1911 with a laser on it was a good choice. Don’t get me wrong, that sounds like a nice pistol, but maybe not for a first time buyer. I didn’t say anything since nobody asked me, but it was hard not to but in.

While at one of our outdoors stores I checked out the handguns. Nice young man behind the counter. Asked him to see a few. [limited knowledge on my part]
He tells me running great special on springfields. Great gun, best value, yada, yada. I ask him which firearms  he carries or owns.

is that a new one ?

Yeah, just came up with it. I tweaked it a little here so it doesn't sound like a cheap shot at actual SF guys, since I actually know a few who really do work at gun counters and aren't complete idiots. :chuckle:

A busy gun counter, especially in a chain store, is often more entertaining than a comedy club.
Boat launch is another good hangout.
One of my favorite summer lunch spots is Lakeview Drive In in Chelan.  They have an outdoor eating bar that overlooks the city park boat launch, which requires making either a 3-point turn with a trailer, or backing down an approach that curves right, then left down the ramp.  Hours of quality entertainment  :chuckle:
Sounds like a chance for an entrepreneurial type to make a few bucks... boat launch Vallet Service!

I get a kick out these kind of shirts.  Also I hear a lot of gun counter “wisdom” from friends.    Buy most my components locally and burn through enough that they recognize me when I come in.

The biggest joke about Cabela’s gun counter is the fact they won’t take their new trigger locks off any of thier guns so that you can make sure the gun is safe and functional, then expect you to trust them that it’s good and still hand over $100 more than you can get it for 5 miles down the street with no trigger locks.

Everyone knows 338’s are basically bazookas.  :dunno:

That's funny!

Also, it seems all these gun counter guys are all former military snipers and or at the least, "shoot competition".  Those guys are my favorites. LOL
oh the operator    Those are the best

Here you go, the gun counter operator

On the flip, during my time behind the counter, , I had many "Special Forces Sniper" types have me mount their scopes fore them, as they typically had no clue. Seemed everyone was a pro till it came to putting things together lol

It definitely goes both ways! :chuckle:

I've spent a significant amount of time on both sides of a gun counter and the best is when you get an "expert" on both sides and the two start babbling back and forth about how they shoot 3" groups at 1000 yards with their Tikka 308s.

Of course I've been called a liar more times than I can count when I mention some of my pistols. I mentioned the 338 SnipeTac pistol at a shop one time and was told my multiple people that a gun like that would tear my arm off and that I was full of it. They quit laughing when I brought them out to my truck and showed them the gun.

I think at this point in my firearms sales history I've heard it all from everyone. All I can say is what a load of crap.

You do know Cabelas will price match.
When I pass, do not let my wife sell the guns for what I told her they cost.
