The biggest joke about Cabela’s gun counter is the fact they won’t take their new trigger locks off any of thier guns so that you can make sure the gun is safe and functional, then expect you to trust them that it’s good and still hand over $100 more than you can get it for 5 miles down the street with no trigger locks.

You do know Cabelas will price match.
Yes. But they still wont take the lock off so you can tell if everything is good to go. Im not buying a firearm I havent fully checked for fit and function.

I spent $18000 on a new 2018 Polaris RZR XP 1000 and the dealer will not let you drive it before you buy it. I'm 65 and still wouldn't. Still bought it.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

On the flip, during my time behind the counter, , I had many "Special Forces Sniper" types have me mount their scopes fore them, as they typically had no clue. Seemed everyone was a pro till it came to putting things together lol

It definitely goes both ways! :chuckle:

I've spent a significant amount of time on both sides of a gun counter and the best is when you get an "expert" on both sides and the two start babbling back and forth about how they shoot 3" groups at 1000 yards with their Tikka 308s.

Of course I've been called a liar more times than I can count when I mention some of my pistols. I mentioned the 338 SnipeTac pistol at a shop one time and was told my multiple people that a gun like that would tear my arm off and that I was full of it. They quit laughing when I brought them out to my truck and showed them the gun.
The ones that pissed me off the most were the ones you hand over a cleared/checked handgun, then they proceed to "operator" mode and sweep everyone around them! Even dry during towards the clerk! Gun gets taken out of their hands rather quickly!
That Sword is more important than the Shield!

Those are the guys that get escorted out of the shop in most of the places I've been. One particular shop had an employee who would give one warning before he'd draw is weapon.

I see a lot of "operator" mode.  I think it's because of too many video games.

There can be numbskulls on both sides of the counter.  A few years ago I bought a Sig P229, and it was set up for both .40 S&W and .357 Sig.  So, I went into the local shop (Jerry's Surplus) and asked for some .357 Sig ammo.  The guy behind the counter said to me "Sig makes guns, not ammunition.  If it's a .357, then you need .357 magnum, that will work fine".  I went out to my truck and retrieved the Sig and brought it into the store.  I showed him the .357 Sig on the barrel.  He told me to get out of his store.  I did, and that was the last time I ever shopped at Jerry's Surplus.

The worst is the guy that chimes in on a conversation between the counter guy and customer. So annoying.

I can't imagine working a gun counter. Must be constant looky-loos and special forces experts that seem to have nothing better to do than hang out in gun stores.

i bought a used remington SP-10 at the lacey cabelas about 5 years ago.  employee at the counter starts telling stories about carrying some #4 buck shells with him when goose hunting, when i said "must have been nice to hunt back when lead was legal" he grinned and said he wasn't old enough to have hunted back then either.

Not to interject, but I've chimed in at the gun counter.

A young women maybe 120lbs told the Cabela's guy she was taking a first time shooter course and that they recommended she get a .22lr pistol to practice and take to class. The Cabela's guy told her she was wasting her time and needed to get a .44 magnum revolver. After she insisted several times she wanted a .22 and him pushing the .44 mag at her I told him to get the manager to help her or I was talking to the manager his call. I haven't seen him at the gun counter since.

My favorite is the "Marine sniper" who talks about his M-14 then picks up a Springfield M1A and asks "so what is this one"?  :dunno:

I bought a Bond 45/410 a few years ago and one of my friends wanted one so he ordered one through cabelas.
When it cam in he went to pick it up and told the gun counter guy he want some ammo for it which the gun counter guy got for him.
The following weekend we went out shooting and he brought his new Bond 45/410 to shoot.when he got the ammo he had 45acp and number 6 shot 410.

It's kind of hard to load up 45acp in a gun chambered for 45 Colt and what good is number 6 shot in a three inch barrel.

Cabelas has way to much talent working their gun counter.
