I don't get the Nosler love....
« on: December 29, 2018, 07:02:46 PM »
I see threads often....28 Nosler.....30 Nosler.....Yes I know they shoot and often shoot very well and yes performance is good and terminal performance on game is good but every thread has the same underlying theme.....you are pressed to find brass for what us clearly a reloaders caliber(s). I admit fully that I like the classics. 308. 270. 7mm rem mag. I also ageee that they are newer and have a cool factor. But....if components are that hard to find why the love?

I’ve had no issues finding brass for my 28.
With that said, there’s nothing wrong with a traditional caliber.

I'm with you, the Nosler rounds are overrated. Hornady's PRC line is obviously better....... :chuckle:

Don't know, just love my 28!  Two kills this year, shoots .70 moa with Norma 217 at 79 GRS.  Only powder I've tried so far.  I'm shooting 175 eld-x @ 3104

Simple answer.  Look at the BC on the 195 berger  :chuckle: components honestly aren't that hard to find.  It requires a bit of Google time but they pop up enough.  When you find it, buy enough for the life of the barrel then it's a non issue.

The heavy 7mm bullets really happened at the right time for the 28 to take off.
The 28 is definitely something that works. Good length round but not too long with the heavies like the rum or stw.

I don’t personally think the 30 is anything too cool with the rum working so well and the 26 just seems like too big a case  :twocents:

I’m shooting 180 ELD-M in my 28 Nosler.  It’s a hammer.

For my light work, I’m gonna pick up a 6.5 PRC in the Ridgeline next month.  Seems like a pretty cool little round.  I really hope the factory ammo shoots as good as the reviews.  At $35 or under/box, it’ll be a nice option.

I just bought one myself. Mine loves them.  Have not run them over the chronograph but I'm guessing 2900fps or so super light recoil with either suppressor or the factory brake.

I find piles of 30 stuff all the time and have more then enough for a long long time. I built a custom in 30 nosler year and a half ago and love it.

They are very similar in case capacity.  Nosler brass is a lot better than Hornady.  300 PRC is very new and not people have experience with it.

yeah if hornady was my only option for brass I'd probably pass on that caliber.  If shooting factory ammo though I'd run it for sure!  Bertram is gonna make prc brass though I believe.

Ballistic twins. Pick you brand loyalty and be happy.

I've personally had excellent luck with the Hornady 375 Ruger case and pretty mediocre performance from the Nosler 375 Ruger brass. I've use the 375 Ruger case for a 375 Ruger as well as a couple of different 338/375 Rugers and I'll use it in my 270 Boondoggle when that's finished up. Loads that will give me 5-6 firings per case in Hornady brass ruined the Nosler cases in 2 firings. These were not just the same powder charge dumped into a Nosler case, it was a load worked up to the same velocity with the same bullet in both cases. The actual powder charges were slightly different. I experienced this in both the 375 Ruger and the 338/375 Ruger.

Bunch of dorks in Oregon that roll dice to come up with a caliber.

But seriously what is the point of the 22 Nosler.

I got no love for anything nosler :chuckle: 🤮💩
Really not a fan of hornady either except the 147gr  9mm xtp’s. Those bullets rock  :stirthepot:

For the record the 300 prc isn’t new. It just has a new name and now factory offerings
Why would anyone want to shoot factory ammunition any way :chuckle:

Friends don't let friends, shoot factory ammunition!  Well, unless it's in a 6.5 Creedmoor, then I suppose it's ok.  :chuckle:
