I got a spoonie hen this season and thought it tasted just fine. Sure, it wasn't a mallard, but they certainty aren't bad eating!

Here are the two birds from earlier this year. Two bucket list birds on one hunt. Soon enough they will be headed down to Lane Wildlife Artistry!

Ridgefield refuge is spoonbill capital. Can’t tell you how many limits of those  “greenheads” I’ve shot down there. Some days it’s all i have seen :chuckle:

The first full daily limit I hit in 2017 was over in the first 20 minutes because of a flock of those goofy things. haha. Their profile as they fly is so distinctive it makes me chuckle. A group came in real tight together. Couldnt have picked a single bird out if I wanted to. Knew what they were though, let a shot fly. 2 shots, 5 hen spoonies, hahaha. Picked up a couple widgeon 10 min later and was limited. Doubt I will ever leave for home with more birds than shots fired again  :chuckle:

Another place that has Plumed out Drake Spoonies late season is the McNary NWR fee hunt area. Too bad this year it was closed for the last 35 days of the season due to the Government shutdown.

I have been after this one for 5 years. Flew over at 20 yards yesterday. To bad I was in the excavator.
