tire air pressure
« on: December 31, 2018, 07:24:50 PM »
I have a 2018 Toyota 4runner 265/70/17 tires, the door sticker says to run 32 lbs., bought new tires, stock size, they say run 40 lbs minimum. What do I do? I asked BF Goodrich ,they said to run 40 minimum.

I ran 32 psi in mine and had no issues.   Traction and ride sucks at 40 psi.  I didn't notice any loss in mpg.

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

40 is too much in a light rig like that. Run 30-32 and see how it does. Watch the tread wear and adjust as needed.

I run 45 in my 3/4 ton Cummins as a comparison.

I read once on a 4x4 forum where guys are running oversized tires to get some chalk and a level, straight aspalt road.  Set your air pressure to what ever you want on all four tires (32, 38, 40, whatever...). Using the chalk, draw a thick perpendicular line with across your tires.  Then drive your rig as straight as possible as far as possible.
You'll see where the chalk runs off first, and you want to see an even wear pattern across the entire tire.  Adjust pressure as necessary.  If it wears out first in the center of the tire you're air pressure is too high.  If it wears on the outside first then the air pressure is too low.

Try it maybe you'll find the optimum tire pressure based on your individual vehicle needs and maximize the lifespan of your tires.

If your truck has sensors, the tps light will come on when air pressure is below what the mft list on your door, If you want to spend the money, you can usually have it reprogrammed through the ecm.
Is it waterfowl season yet..............
