Does a bullet hole in the head, or in and out, diminish the value of an otter pelt?
Why not just throw the trap on the water for like 5 mins. I cant have a gun obviously so thats what Ive always done, keeps the whole hide perfect to.
The thing people dont realise is some of these water based animals, beavers, otter, muscrat, mink, they dont dround in the sense you and me thinks. Fear, Panic, Breaths of water to full the lungs, death.
Well I was taught this isnt the case. These animals are accustomed to holding theyre breath, So when I catch i.e. a live mink, and toss the whole cage in the pond for a bit, I just walk away and check other traps on the line, and this goes the same with other trapped animal in my little bit of experience.
But they just hold theyre breath until the lack of oxygen renders them unconscious, they dont freak out and panic, Just pure survival instincts.
