Help new shooter pick used hunting bow
« on: January 03, 2019, 09:49:29 AM »
I'm trying to break into bow hunting without breaking the bank.  I figure the new year might be a good time to scoop up a decent bow and start practicing for next season.  I'm a right-handed shooter with a 30" draw length and am comfortable with 60 lbs.  I'm willing to spend around $350 on a bow - the more complete the package the better.  I'm a new to the sport so some adjustability to the bow without the use of a press would be nice.  I would like a brand and model that is easy enough to repair and find parts for.  Beyond that, I don't know enough to know what I'm looking for which is why I want to start used in the first place.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

For your price point you can buy a brand new ready to shoot/hunt bow package  :twocents:
All you would need is arrows and a release.
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

I bought a budget bow 5 years ago and am still using it today.  It's a bowtech tomkat, it was in that price range and came with everything I needed.  They stopped making that model in 08 I think so there  might still be a few out there in your price range.

Make sure to check out the strings on whatever you buy, new ones will run ya around 100$.

My starter bow was free and was late 90's model and I paid 150 from a pawn shop for a newer bow 2011 model. Inspected and bought. Came with everything except arrows and broad heads.

The deals are out there just got to find them.

Fter the Archery Trade Association show mid month lots of guys will start selling couple year old bows for to buy the new ones. Keep you eye out on here, Craigslist, and Archery Talk forum.
