Boy I don't envy having his job. The feds have his hands tied. Being part of the ESA the Feds need to kick in some money as it is now its falling a lot on the state and we know who's pocket that comes out of.
The only man who never makes a mistake, is the man who never does anything!!
The further one goes into the wilderness, the greater the attraction of its lonely freedom.

No, the wolves in the eastern 1/3rd of the state have been federally delisted for quite some time.  Its only the state that lists them as endangered.

The first step would be to poison out the wolves, allow us to hound hunt cougars and bait bears.

Then after twenty or thirty years of truly managing the wildlife of Washington they can start to get a little respect.

If you consider the magnitude and diversity of the problems he is facing I think he is making good initial steps.

#1 problem the department suffered from is lack of trust. He has said it himself. The solution has to be long term and he has the hard job of earning back what others lost.

I think it is more than fair to be cautiously optimistic, or an honest skeptic. ACTIONS are all most of us care about.

This quote really sums up what we face in this state.

"Susewind told ranchers the department is subject to legislative action  driven by the largest source of votes

At least he sees it and says it's not the way it should be.

Wdfw has a ton of work ahead of them if they want respect from ne wa.

Not just the NE, most of E-WA have no respect for WDF&Wolves.

Here WA is at 16+years of wolves, close to eight of acknowledgment of wolves from WDFW with no sign of delisting, my guess is by the time WDFW decide to delist and hunt wolves, WA will be in such bad shape there won't be much left to save and nothing we can do to save what is left. About that time WDFW will leap to their feet and pretend to be concerned, bran new BS will be invented in response to the crises. Shutting down hunting will be their first response.

Blaming environmentalist over lawsuits to this point does not pass the smell test, remember the bad wolf plan? The refusal to confirm wolf killed livestock etc., refusal to even confirm known wolves/wolf packs, that's all on WDFW. Notice WDFW doesn't seem to even mention the impact of wolves on the ungulates, they are running more impact studies that most with and ounce of brains already know the answers to. Delisting time rolls around and if wolf hunting does become part of the plan, then we will see the lawsuits from WDFW's partners.

Remember IDFG and the illegal crap they pulled, the lies told over the decimation of elk, "poor habitat", fortunately the people of Idaho had more say then WA and turned things around.

The Okanogan is losing livestock to wolves also, the ones I have heard about aren't going to WDF&wolves over their losses as they have seen the slaughter continue while WDFW pretend to give two cents.

Lets not forget about the grizzly bears that WDFW want to introduce, and the BS continues.

I hope the New Guy, Honestly tries to make changes.
