Dog restraint

Anyone have a slick way to hold your dog or restrain them to pull quills or do other doctoring, other than brute force?  Thanks!

Tie them off short to the hitch and go to work.  It's really hard to hold a dog down

I hunt with my vet..... nighty night juice, he packs enough stuff along to do surgery if needed.

I have had to do it twice in the field with a big chocolate lab. Luckily I had a leatherman's tool with pliers. Sat on top of the dog on his front shoulders with his head between my legs. Not fun but it worked. Two weeks later he went after another porky and I followed the same routine. I had thought he learned his lesson but he never did. Still better than when my GSP went after a skunk.

Thanks everyone.  Wife gave me a hand and we got them all out.  I tied a rag around his eyes so he couldn't see the pliers coming.

you be nice to jj!!has he eaten his waterbucket yet? Warning his mom got into a skunk last bear season it must run in the family. Never had any porky problems but there is a first for everything

He cracks me up with his water bucket.  I have stainless steel buckets so the last couple of days he hasn't bothered it...but then that could be becasue his mouth is a bit sore!!    He's a nice handling dog.  I really apprciate it!

Fred probably knows....but for others who read this. You have to get all of them out. Especially, those in the chest area. They are designed to pull into the flesh when the dog moves. I've seen them work through the chest cavity and come out in the armpit pointy end first. If they hit anything vital, dog is in serious trouble down the road. I'd rather cut a little to get them out than have one work into the lungs/heart and kill the dog. I've done it myself but if you can afford the sedation and a vet, totally worth it. I had lots of Porkies around the house for a while, after the dog got into one on the front porch, I started dispensing lead pills.
