Hot take, closing weekend is better than the opener
« on: January 17, 2019, 08:21:40 PM »
I’m sure I’m in the minority here but...I think I like the closing weekend of season better than the opener. The last weekend of the season has better hunting weather, less crowds, and the dogs and I are in top hunting shape. The birds are craftier but let’s be honest, if it was always easy we wouldn’t like it as much. We have a whole season behind us and as we take the last few strolls many memories of hunts flash in my memory. It seems to be easier to soak in the entire experience instead of being focused on harvesting the first birds of the season. If we miss the opener you still have the whole season in front of you. But if you miss the closing days, you have to wait months to get back out.

If you have a bird dog closing weekend should be mandatory attendance for you two in the field. Let’s see some end of season fun!

Our last bird of the season. Missing tail feathers as I winged it and he chased it down. Must have caught it by the tail before grabbing it.

Smith and Wesson elite gold 20 gauge. Same gun as the dickenson sxs or webley and scott 2000 I believe.

I agree man. my 1.5 yr old setter really came into his own this season. we slipped over to nebraska so we actually got two closing weekends on ditch parrots. We made it back home in time to catch the last day of chuckar too  :chuckle:

One measily bird fell on my car and almost ruined my gun. It fell outta the sky on the last day of the season.

Beautiful pictures of what looks to be a great trip  longrange7mm! I especially like the one with the Bobwhites and A5. If you don't mind me asking, what type of camera were you using?
