If you are going to buy a pass I would look at Thompson creek for grouse.

I believe Inland Paper has sold that piece of land to the Spokane County Parks Dept.;IE. "NO HUNTING". A small piece of DNR property on Mica Peak is about it for any public hunting and the now high use by hikers makes it pretty marginal. In years past, I have shot grouse in that area, but the LONG, uphill hike to reach the IP property boundary to avoid trespass on private land for marginal grouse hunting made it not worth the cost of the permit.

A slightly longer drive to the Colville National Forest with a variety of publc grouse hunting choices is a better idea.

The whole south side of the mtn is all iep and still publicly accessible.

I do like the fact that the county is pro active in keeping open space but I despise the fact that they are buying up large tracts of already publicly available multi user accessible land and eliminating the hunting Access.  :twocents:

Not quit, Bullblaster...It's a LONG uphill hike from the Starr Rd. access gate to reach IEP property. All the NO TRESPASSING signs on either side of the gravel road show the private ownership. There is a piece of DNR land around the Starr Rd. bend and across the road; nice for hiking, but I have yet to see a grouse on it.

LONG? Uphill hike?

It is 1 mile up the road and a 500 foot elevation gain.

I guess that is subjective and some are more willing to walk than others.

Also you can access it from Idaho and drive to the state line so no long uphill hike there. There is still lots of accessible huntable land up there.  :twocents:
