Electronic Squeakers?
« on: January 20, 2019, 06:07:41 PM »
Anyone use them? Good, Bad? Worth the time and money?

Hauling cage traps up to my old areas isn't practical and need them to draw them down to me.
If I need a permit and education to buy a firearm than women should need a permit and education  before getting an abortion.

I have used one that I got from an outfit in Utah (washach ? something).  It has a light sensor and will turn on at dark.  Caught some bobcat and had a cougar around one of the traps at night when I used it.
It never changes, but it is always different.

Did you hang it on a tree nearby or put it in the cage?

Covered it alittle  with some small twigs and placed it on the outside of the trap near the back

I've used them and caught a couple of cats but if I use bait, lure, urine, flagging, feathers, cage puppet etc. I'm never sure WHAT it was or what sub-combination it was that made the cat commit.  I think they are a good idea if you are trapping in an area where you don't know what trails the cats are traveling on or you can't set near the trails.  If the cats hear the squeaker they will be tempted to come over and investigate but so could any human busybodies who might distirb or destroy your cage.

When I was younger and packing leg holds I trapped in the "rim rock" of steep canyons. I would hike half way up the canyon walls before getting to where the cats were. That isn't going to happen with cages and my age.
Trying to lure them down a bit with sound? I'm not worried to much about the general public as not even deer hunters like to go up that steep stuff..

I would use flagging for that challenge.  A big turkey feather on a line with a swivel so that it doesn't get wrapped up or a small feather on soe cotton string.

I've used feathers/wings and tin pans.. no luck? The snow hasn't pushed them down I'm told by an old timer. Few elk are even at the feeding station.

Packing it in for this season and will try again next year. :(
