Thanks Steve! it was an incredible experience. I didn't think it was that big until we went to pack it out. even then, I just thought we were really out of shape. WDFW sealed the hide this morning and they said it was the biggest they've seen. (personally, not the department) the taxidermist said its probably in the 180+ lb range. I also have a few more pics. ill post them here a little later today after I get the meat taken care of.

I'm pretty disappointed myself. I shot it on saturday, WDFW wasn't around until monday, my taxidermist wouldn't touch it until WDFW sealed the hide and I didn't know anyone with an accurate scale (so I thought). So I gutted it. Obviously I didn't want to ruin the meat. A customer of mine who has been trying to get a cougar for a long time (I just turned him on to your calls) informed me he had a scale we could use. So sunday morning we weighed it. At 156 gutted there's a good chance it was 180+. According to what I read, WA record is 197. They trapped and released that cougar. The previous record was 182. Sure would've been nice to know where mine was on that spectrum exactly. I honestly didn't think it was that big. I was expecting 110-120 gutted on the scale. We took it off, reset the scale and checked it a couple of times and it was back at 156 every time. I'm still in shock. I expected a small female from the day I started calling. I just can't believe I happened to get a big one. This is my absolute #1 dream hunt that came true. I highly doubt I'll ever get another one of this caliber, but I know it won't be the last cat. It sure is nice to confirm that what I'm doing works. After having 70+ cold stands (plus one luke warm stand) and not calling anything in, it starts to mess with your head and by the end of the day you think you're crazy for even considering going back out the next day. That cougar I called in back in July sure motivated me enough to get back out almost every single weekend though. Needless to say it paid off. So I'm heading out in the morning with this guy to try to find him a cat now. I doubt the weather will cooperate but it looks like it just might. Hopefully I have something to report back about tomorrow.

What does it mean for WDFW to "seal the hide"?
