Blacktail sheds dropping yet?
« on: January 24, 2019, 08:10:17 AM »
With a weekend of nice weather predicted, my wife and I are looking for something fun to get out in the woods for this weekend. I pulled my cameras at the end of september as I got lucky and tagged out early this year. In hindsight I should have left them to see when antlers start dropping but I dont have the highest quality cameras and didn't want to risk damaging them in the W. Washington rain. Has anyone seen blacktails shedding headgear yet?

Thanks BoneAddict. This is our first year shed hunting (officially). We've gotten lucky and found a couple while out scouting. Don't have the highest of hopes but there was a 5x4 blacktail on one of our cams that inspired us to get out there.

Mid February is a good time to go look. If you look now I'd avoid hitting the same spot too often.

I had a feeling it was a bit early. Either way, family time in the woods is hard to beat.

Getting to be prime time for sheds - but as mentioned above, mid-late Feb. is probably the best.  Too early, find nothing.  Too late, someone else got them.  I've been keeping my eyes open and checking beds when out in the woods.  I've already found my annual allotment of absolutely none, so I'm right on track for another average year.

Yup, we came home empty handed today as expected but I made sure to bring some old sheds out with us so my son could "find" some for us, ha! I dropped a couple in the middle of the trail ahead of him. His words..."Cant believe you didnt see that!". Still a fun day
