I have been tossing around the idea of buying my wife a bow. She already loves to hunt, so why not take the next step and get her into it.....I have been doing my on-line research and am looking for a bow in the 3 1/2 pound weight range with an axle to axle of less than 33 inches. I think she can handle 50lb draw just fine, so what do you guys recommend?

I have a parker, not sure of the weight or axle length on it but it was inexpensive, and feels really good to me. I tried several bows and it seemed to have the most adjustments for draw and weight. Worth taking a look at.

If I were you I would take her into a good pro shop and let her try some bows out and let her pick whick one feels best to her. Then they should let her shoot it also. There are so many nice bows out there these days, its all ablut preferance. Of course some bows are smoother than others also.

This is an awesome bow and is light and short, would be a nice bow for her. Super smooth also.

diamond razor edge, it is adjustable from 30-67 lbs., dl is ridiculous also adjustable from like 20"-29" , also 7" or 7.5" BH

I would make sure the bow has a descent brace highth like 7 or more also.

Wife has a bowtech tomkat and loves it, has taken a couple of animals with it already, 20 yards went through and through on an elk

My wife is shooting the switchback XT at 25 inch draw 50 - 60 pound bow, she usually shoots abot 58. I know where a brand new one is for a discounted price, just have to swith the cam out unless she is a 27 inch draw??

I am interested.............My wife is 5'7", I bet her draw will be right at 26-27". Let me know about the Switchback if you don't mind...

That Kobalt was my pick from Hoyt, sweet bow, just a crap load of cash!!!! I can't beleive how much new bows are these days! I know, you get what you pay for..........

Can't go wrong with the Hyperlite or DXT. Kobalt is a sweet little bow also.

Thats exactly right, there is a reason its spendy and no its not the name.. I put a sts on my exs and that little thing was smooth as any bow and quiet as could be... the 300 dollar bows dont come close..

You Hoyt guys what do you think of the Rintec? It came out in '05, a nice split limb youth/womens bow 40-50lb. draw, 33" axle to axle, 2 3/4 pounds, and at 50lbs. with a 250 gr. arrow is shooting 270fps. I found one with rest, sights and a few carbons for $275. Is it worth that?

I looked at the Hoyt Kobalt and it is a really nice bow but if someone is just starting out I wound't spend that much money. What if they lose interest, or don't like it? That's alot of cash. My wife shot the Kobalt (loved it) and she also shot the Diamond Razor Edge. It's very versatile like hoytem just posted and it's smooth, low vibration and very light. She really loved it. It's an excellant starter bow. If your wife decides she really likes it then I'd get her the Hoyt Kobalt.

The Kobalt is nice but a bare bones bow is like $575. Where the Diamond Razor Edge comes as a fully loaded package for $329.99 So needless to say that is what I will be buying my wife for our anniversary. She'll finally be getting a diamond for our anniversary just not the kind she figured on.

My wife just shot the Parker Sidekick. And loved it so now it's between the Diamond Razor Edge or the Parker Sidekick. On Sunday she'll shoot them side by side and make the final decision. My question is this. Has anyone had a Parker and did you like them? The price is basically the same.

The Razor Edge is $329 for the kit.
The Parker Sidekick is $349 for a kit.

Okay, I am close to a solution! I have been out to Rainier Archery and looked at a lot of bows, as well as wasted a lot of time at work on the web researching bows of all sorts, I got the guy with Hoyt Rintec down to $240 for the bow with a whisker bisquit, dusk devil sight, 10 carbon Gold Tips and Hoyt 5 arrow quiver. The pictures show it to be in excellent condition!!! With a good release, maybe a new sight, broadheads, more arrows.......I will be in it less than a new Kobalt with no accessories!!!!!!!!
It sounds like a deal to me! The wife is excited to archery hunt deer this year too!!! I think I will pick it up Sat.

I might be able to afford a Hoyt or a Bowtech for her after all. There are some really cheap bows on Ebay. Speaking of which does anyone know of any other types of websites like ebay that have bows for sale?

I have bought 2 Razor Edges for my kids, a pink one (just ordered it from Roger at Wilderness) and a camo one we have had for a while now. Awesome bows, with the 30# limbs it is adjustable from 15 -30 #'s and DL is adjustable from 19-29. I also have the 60 # limbs which are adjustable from 30-60.... talk about a bow that can last through their next ten years. at 60#'s and 29" it's 308 FPS. Perfect bow for youth or women.

Nice that's good to hear. I shot it the other day as well and felt pretty good for a cheaper bow. That will probably be the one she gets. The Parker Sidekick was a little bit rougher on the draw cycle and also had alot more vibe and torgue on the shot. Diamond makes good bows so I'm sure that these are durable as well.

Thanks Charlie! It is a sweet setup! Picked it up this morning in Sequim, shot it a few times, it is in brand new condition!!!! I don't need anything but some more Gold Tips and some more 100gr. Thunderheads. The sights are very nice and bright with 4 pins, should be fine. Pumpkin is real excited to shoot and learn the sport. This will be a real learning experiance for both of us! Looking forward to the challenge!

Problem now is I have the new bow bug, but my old Matthews is such good condition I can't see the benefit in spending all that money on a new one....

Well you will have to get a new bow now cause your brother is.

Just think how nice it would be shooting the Monster at those wide open deer on the eastside. You could shoot a couple pounds less than you are now and shoot 50 fps faster.
