WY question
« on: January 29, 2019, 12:45:12 PM »
New to the WY game,
I have zero points for WY and want to get a point for deer and Antelope so maybe I’d have a chance of drawing an easier unit for next year. Can I do points only option for WY and do I have to still purchase a hunting license for points only? Any idea of what this would cost me? Thanks so much, I know I only have another day or so to get this done. Thanks for any Info!

Mark your calendar well, I totally forgot to get mine last year.  July isn't when I have elk on the mind.

and if you skip or forget a year your points are still there.  Skip two years and you loose all of them.  just a heads up.

Thanks, I'll have to double make sure this year.  I'll be in the draw for antelope but probably points for deer and elk again.

Is there a particular reason you want to wait a year, you can draw a 2nd or 3rd choice unit this year and still build points toward the future

Yeah, I’m putting in for MT this year as well, so I don’t want to draw both. I’m also helping a friend on a hunt and have a few WA hunts that I’m planning as well.. so many hunts, so little time! Ha.

Understandable, I’ve been putting off Montana antelope just because of that massive winter last year and the ill effects on the pronghorn population. This year my dad and grandpa are going to apply with me and since they have no Montana points we will go back to the same 2nd choice unit in Wyoming as last year

I just want to double check on this, you can apply for the left over tags without putting in for the first draw correct?  I’m talking elk.

The WY deer and antelope draw is later in the spring.  Only elk apps are due tomorrow.

Leftovers are available to anyone but it is not a draw. Leftovers are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Do they have a second draw then?  I see odds for a second draw?

It is a draw for the leftovers. That was new last year. Then anything left over after the second draw is first come first serve. You better apply in the first draw though if you really want a good chance. Odds in the second draw are pretty poor. Everyone who was unsuccessful in the first draw, and most other state's draws, are in competition for the few tags that are left.

I'm in the same boat.  Flat out forgot.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
