Watt Canyon
« on: February 02, 2019, 02:15:34 PM »
There are some pretty nice elk hanging around Watt Canyon these days
And I think God must be a cowboy at heart
He made wide open spaces from the start
He made grass and trees and mountains and a horse to be a friend
And trails to lead ol' cowboys home again

Chris Ledoux...

Do you need a discover pass to park at the gate?
I looked up info and looks like the gates are closed around Dec 15.
Thank you for the info

Directions

From Ellensburg: Take Interstate 90 westbound, get off at Exit 101 at Thorp, turn left (south) on to North Thorp Highway which goes over I-90, continue on North Thorp Highway, turn right (northwest) on to Thorp Cemetery Road, continue a little more than two miles on the road and turn left (west) on Watt Canyon Road. The parking area is at the end of the road where it comes to L.T. Murray Wildlife Area lands. A Discover Pass is required to park.

No walk at all....   Well maybe 50 yards if it's crowded.

There is a good sledding hill, literally right next to the elk fence if there is snow.   Your grandkids might enjoy that, too.

There is no "observation area", like there is at some of the others.
You basically pull up and park and look at elk thru the elk fence.    Still fun.
