Bow lean fix
« on: January 08, 2019, 09:01:57 PM »
I'm a bit confused and hoping someone may have some insight.  Left hand shooter with a Hoyt Carbon Defiant 34 / Spot Hogg Tommy Hogg sight / Tightspot quiver.  Based on what seems logical and what I have read one would think my bow would lean toward the left due to the quiver being on that side.  Instead when I draw back my bow tilts to the right.  It's probably about 1/4 bubble off.  I have attempted to adjust my grip thinking I had that wrong.  No change.  I have verified the cant by adding a side bar to the left side (quiver side) and it helps in getting more level.

Does anyone else lean in the "wrong" direction?  Explanations for why it happens or solutions to fix it?  So far I'm not a huge fan of the side bar so hoping for a better resolution.

Thanks

Nothing other than grip and form will cause a bow to lean one way or the other. Adjust your anchor point might straighten it out :dunno:

Imagine taking a giant rubber band, then holding it like a bow and pulling it back.
Where does it go? Closer to your body because as you pull to full draw you get closer to that 180* angle. Work on your form, decrease draw length untill the problem goes away.
Id check DL first, usually easy to change unless your maxed out.

Wanted to give an update and thank you all again for the responses.  Realized my grip was sloppy and really needed some tweaking anyway.  Had my wife video a bunch of my shots and I could actually see me torque the bow to the right when I shot.  After a couple weeks of working on I have decent grip that is repeatable and strangely enough my shots are not consistently right anymore.

Going through running an experiment on running the stabilizer, stabilizer with side bar or no stabilizer at all.  I have a 20 shot sequence that I run one day with the stabilizer one without recording each shot with a photo.  Setting those photos up for a comparison after getting a few months worth of shooting in.  Work is getting in the way because I have not lighted hours during the work week so it's a weekend only experiment until we get some more daylight hours or I install outdoor lighting for the 60 yard range!

All that gear is doing nothing .  Ignore it and just practice your form.  Archery unlike rifle hunting has nearly zero to do with what equipment you have and so much more about FORM shooting.  Randy Ulmer is a great resource.  But focus on how you grip that bow, torque is all in how you hold it.  Archery is like golf to me, its all in your head.  Don't let it beat you up
