I try and get to Tahsis fishing every year.  There was another thread about salmon fishing on Vancouver island and this is the spot I prefer.  It is more secluded than the Ucelet area.  The remote nature of this area is what draws me there.  There are a few halibut spots but for the most part the halibut isn't super great there.  The salmon action is great though.  In addition to the really good bottomfishing, there are plenty of wildlife to see.  You run out the narrows to the fishing grounds and it is about 20 miles.  You can fish the outside for salmon and it's great too.  Here are a few pictures of the place.  I usually drop off my shrimp pots on the way out and get hundreds of giant prawns on the way in when I pull them.  I've seen black bear everywhere.  One night I counted about 10 in one clear cut.  This is the same area that Jim Shockey guides for black bear on his hunting shows.  A truly wild place to go.

Here are a few pictures of the inside salmon fishing and the last panoramic is from about 4 miles offshore looking in toward Esperanza inlet.

I go in my own boat.  Last time I was up there a couple years ago I only had a 21' Seaswirl.  Now I have a bigger boat but really, a 16-20 foot boat would be fine out there.

Don't forget your friends.............. :chuckle:  Looks like great place, that kind of scenery is worth the whole trip....  When we were up on Vancouver this year for a  hockey tourney, I was talking to locals up on the northern tip, forget the name of the city/port where they were from.  They had some great stories of the Salmon action...

Cohoho, you are too spoiled from Alaska.  I'm sure this place isn't near as good as Alaska but it's the best that I've found south of the Queen Charlotte Islands.

When are WE going?  I ain't that spoiled............. to have a good time... Although I must admit, I am a bit of Salmon snob.  Only ate fresh PWS, Kenai or Copper River Reds, heck I even had times where fresh Silvers wouldn't cut it, and the stinky large Kings never went to my Barbeque....  :chuckle: but my taste is beginning to change and last years Columbia springer's proved they were pretty good eats for sure.... But man the sick dog that eats Pink and Chums.... blah.... :stirthepot: Might as well consider Rainbow Trout as tasty too.....Not....

Reason we used to go to Ketchikan every fall for Kings, about 1 in 4 were white kings, it was OK.....   :chuckle:  March in Homer is a good time too but you will freeze your butt off.  Good chance at white feeder kings...

Hi, if there is a slight chance i would love to get the info for going up there and approximate cost.  Teacherman and myself may make it there next year.  Our boat is shown on the smallmouth string here. it is just a 17 ft alumnaweld.  it has a 60 hp and an 8 hp. We just installed downriggers

Roger that, My Mother was a gourmet chef and she would just laugh at all the so called exports that had to have pink meat salmon (buy some painted Atlantic for gosh sakes). She would save the white meat kings for special occasions.

Do not even get me started on the whole Copper river BS.  The fish buyer for Anthony's Home Port Restaurant is laughing his way to the bank with that one. Just wait the Yukon frenzy is  coming, lol. I grew up with his family.

Alchase, funny that you mention that about the Copper River Reds, it was too funny to see the hooplua that went into that whole getting the first batch of fish out of the river and too the Air Port via helo to Anchorage and out to Seattle for a very expensive plate....  So folks could state they had the best tasting Reds anywhere in the world.....    :chuckle: Copper River, Kenai River, PWS and anywhere else, I couldn't tell the difference in taste, but I like the Kenai best (I could dip net 55 there versus 25 on the Copper) :rolleyes:, A Red is a Red, but a Pink is nasty and a Chum is awful, IMO...  But then again, I didn't eat alot of other fish either... :dunno:
