Well...the timber lands around Whitebird have been owned by private timber companies as well as the Wilks brothers...so either conspiracy theory works, but if I had to place a bet, I'd bet on the private timber company lands and spray...

The good news is it is in another state now.  Maybe Idaho will truly try to come up with a solution even if it points fingers at the cause.As it is we only get what some think it is but seem to know for a fact what it's not.

After the extensive effort and cost that WDFW went to in studying hoof root, I will be surprised if Idaho does much more than rely on that research.

I don't know much about this hoof rot, some people are saying they know the cause, I didn't know Oregon or Washington had determined what caused it? But, if it can travel in soil on boots or vehicles I'm wondering why everyone is blaming the private landowners and local ranchers? Isn't it possible that hunters (thousands of them coming from WA and OR) accidentally brought it over on their boots, UTV's, or vehicles? I don't know, I'm just asking these questions to learn?

Yeah anything that can move dirt, can move dirt that has been contaminated.  So it can definitely spread that way.

Nothing is known for sure, from WSU's website:

the disease is strongly associated with Treponeme bacteria

To me, that means they think that is what causes it but they aren't sure.  According to Google, that type of bacteria may be able to live outside a host for 18-21 days in ideal conditions, so the good news is that if they are right there is much more hope than with CWD.

I believe WSU received $3M from Olympia for a study that was scheduled to begin last summer.

I know many think I have tinfoil on my head but,,,  I don't think Wa. study really learned much.  They have a theory based on facts but no conclusive findings.  Trep bacteria is found in most all soils everywhere-FACT.  Begs the question why are some getting sick from it??  Could it be that the elk are sick and immune system is weak?  Very logical question of concern imop.  Could it be the chems they are 100% digesting?  Seems logical to me, especially when WE are NOT supposed to injest that much of those chems.??  Sure seems plausible to me and baffles me how so many will argue the safety of them because they work in the industry while taking precautions to not over expose themselves or others.  Blindly trusting Gov. and Chem Co. telling us its all good.  Yet if we test ourselves we will find these chems in our urine!       If they are correct and its just Trep WHY not give em antibiotics that easily treat em and proof their theory??  A study/experiment could be done.  Why do they not request this??  Is their plan to eradicate one of the most common bacteriums on the planet to save elk?    Honestly I am more worried about the rampant spread of CWD which is a Zoonotic risk to US with no cure!!!!!!!!!!!!  Eating CWD meat poses a threat to us possibly!  MAD COW/MAN disease!

I know very little about it other than what I read about it on here. I think Idaho will go all out on finding the cause and possible solutions. Idaho is pretty aggressive on protecting the elk herds and I am optimistic that they will figure it out. Might just be killing the elk in the infected area? I hope not. Bottom line is it sucks and Idaho elk already have enough to deal with. The chemical spray makes sense to me as a potential cause but again I know very little

What would you like them to say? There have been no known substantiated cases of humans being affected.

I would prefer DEFINITELY safe to eat! Or even no qualifier just safe to eat. Just joking around anyways, I thought it was kind of funny,its like maybe its safe to eat, we think so, not totally sure but go for it!
