Bucket List Hunt Complete
« on: February 12, 2019, 12:33:33 PM »
Was fortunate enough to harvest this tom last weekend in MT with my hunting partner and childhood best friend. This was the 30th cougar put up by his dog and the first one killed over her and his buddies dog. It's truly amazing watching these dogs and houndsman work. This is their cat, I was just blessed to be invited along and able to execute the shot and put my tag on it. I cant wait to go again.

We also put up a beautiful tom bobcat, just for the dog. The quota was closed so we took pictures and hiked back to the truck. So much fun, I wish we could run dogs in WA.

We did cut a lot of wolf tracks and had to be very cautious where we turned the dogs loose. Luckily no sightings of wolves or issues with them and the dogs.

Clint

So awesome! High on my bucket list as well.   Few things more satisfying than watching good dogs work.

That’s a fat cat. Great picture!

He had a fresh kill near by. My buddy found where he had drug a doe mule deer across the road and buried her. We caught him not far from his kill up the mountain.

Congrats man.  Way to get it done with the bow.  Cat hunting with dogs is kind of boring right up until it is total chaos and then it is super exciting.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Cooked up a chunk of cougar backstrap tonight in my cast iron, then finished it in the oven until internal temp was over 160. Topped it with garlic mushrooms and sauerkraut. Paired it with homemade sweet potato fries. Got the thumbs up of approval from the gf and 7 year old. Man was it good!

That pic right there should make everyone want to get a cougar even more.
Yes they are tasty, been a few years since I've had it.
