This buck would be mine. I drew a late rifle tag for the twisp area a few years back. I have a buddy who told me if I drew the tag he would go over with me and help me out. He had hunted the area for many years back when the general season went into November, so he knew what route the bucks usually take when they move out of the high country.
I had planned on taking nothing but a "big buck" or nothing at all, as I had killed my first muley a week prior in Wyoming. A nice tall racked 3x4 with eyegaurds. We started out the first day hunting really high, without seeing much sign or deer at all. Later in the afternoon we decided to go to town and check in to a motel, and then go check out the lowland fields to see if any rutting activity had started. As luck would have it a farmer driving by us noticed the hunter orange and asked if we had drawn the late tag and if so we should come check out his place. Well, being that I never look a gift horse in the mouth we took him up on his offer. As soon as we arrived we noticed a monster whitey going nuts over a doe in the alfa alfa. I did not really want a whitetail on the first day, or at all for that matter, but this guy was big enough that we needed to take a good look. We hiked down and set up in a ditch around the field and no sooner we get there here comes this muley chasing 5 does right down to us in the field. He stepped out in front of us about 40 yards and mounted a doe and I took him after he was done spreading his seed. I know it was only the first day, but this buck had everything I was looking for. Not a bad Washington muley. One of these days I might take him in and have him scored.

What unit did you get drawn for, and how many points did you have? My dad has been putting in for those tags for 10 years and still hasn't been drawn :bash: :bash:.

That's a good buck in any state. He might not break any records, but who cares, he's beautiful. Nice work putting a good tag to good use.

My father drew an muzzleloader Alkali tag a couple years ago after me urging him to put in. He used 6 points for the draw. Its a really cool area with some great genes...... but the year we went well over 90% of the range was closed to public access due to increased military use. Since the war in Iraq the army is doing way more drills out there, and they don't hold back just because its deer season. We only saw one buck about the size of the smaller one above. I have to say that due to the restrictions it was one of the most dissapointing hunts of my life. I won't ever put in for the Alkali again. :twocents:
