I couldn't believe how cheap the African Hunts sold for at the Friday "Day" auction.   A couple Tahr hunts were deals also.  That was tempting, friday and saturday night auctions were out of my league LOL.  Seen Donald Trump Jr walking around the show as casual as anyone else.

Africa is a mess right now. No way I'd be headed that way to hunt.

What is going on making Africa a mess?
I'm headed to South Africa in a couple months and am not duly concerned about my safety. I'll be met at the airport and escorted the entire time. We will be in remote areas with few people.

There have been recent rumblings that the government intends to confiscate land from whites but very little has happened.

I equate it somewhat to saying "I'm not going to Washington/California/Michigan/Washington DC...." because it's unsafe". Yes there are places not to go just about everywhere. To be candid there's probably a greater danger in driving from Washington to/from Colorado.

There are some great deals right now for African hunts.

I think all the gov tags are sold this year.  Hopefully, we get to see some of the critters taken.  I don’t remember seeing the deer posted on here from the last couple of years.

:yeah:
I hope so too........

I know you think you're the biggest wealth of knowledge on this site, but if you're trying to retain credibility that driving from CO to WA is more dangerous than heading to hunt in Africa, then you've lost all respect from anybody with any knowledge. There's a reason that a high percentage of African hunt packages are selling at basically all time lows. Hell, I've seen several go without a single bid at numerous auctions. Definately a time to go if a guy feels he has a good hunt lined up, but as far as I'm concerned, you could give me any hunt over there for free and I will not go.  :twocents:

I don't want to thread jack this any further. There is risk everywhere. I've been to South Africa on multiple occasions and know many others who have without incident. If others feel differently I can respect that. Now back to our regularly scheduled program of Washington's governors tags.

Awhile back I was watching an episode with Tom Miranda hunting in Africa and they were getting shot at and there was a bullet hole in the door of the truck they were riding in and the bottom of the seat frame he was sitting on that they showed.

What’s the reason for the attempted insults? Totally uncalled for.

I’ve been to several banquets/auctions/fundraisers in the last several years including 2 this year and have always been shocked at how low Africa hunts go for. Low prices don’t seem like they’re new to me.   Maybe I’m hanging with the wrong crowd.

maybe rather than ripping a guy that is offering up his opinion of Africa and his upcoming trip you could give an answer to the question that was posed to you. Elaborate on what’s wrong in Africa? Hopefully you have some personally experience on the dubject. You obviously have a different opinion. Follow question would be have you been to Africa and decided to not make a return trip like the guy is who’s credibility you are challenging?

Last I looked, Africa was a pretty big place.

Kind of like the U.S.    Some places are more dangerous to walk around than others.

But now I'm too scared to drive to Colorado.

My experience is similar - I think the reason they go for lower prices is the logistics, time and cost to get there are not insignificant.  So when folks show up to the banquet, its not a big pool of buyers who are prepared to commit to traveling to Africa.  As far as the danger...I'll take the word of folks with actual experience.
