Why do all posts show up with a new tag even the ones I have read and are several days old ??

Were you logged in when you read them last time?

Each time a thread gets replied too it'll show up in the right hand column, the

means there is a new reply to that thread, it doesn't mean the whole thread is new.

An old thread could get replied too and it will show that

icon.

Yep. If there’s been another post in a thread since the last time you looked at it, it gets labeled as “new”.
