Remembering the good old days...

Wow 900 goat permits! Lower success rates back then maybe?
I'm sure it was lower. As I recall they were considered almost a varmint and hunters didnt put a lot of effort into hunting them. Probably akin to a cougar tag today: you get one just in case you run into one. I think they were $5.

900 tags............    seems unreal.

I got my first tag in 84 for the Pratt River with 10 tags.   That unit has been closed for about 20 years.
Way too many tags were given out back in the day, and by the time the game DEPT figured out goat mortality numbers it was way too late😕

All should bare in mind that there was also a buyer in the audience that did bid on this tag to $30,000. A lot of thanks goes out to him also.
Also we should remember that most of our goat problems actually started to occur after cougar hunting with hound was ban. There were a lot of areas in this state that had a lot of mountain goats that were never hunted and there are almost none now.
Cougars are already having an impact on the ones that were recently release.  In the public meeting I continually brought up the predator problem and they(WDFW) continued to ignore the question. In 1 area over 1/3 have already been eaten by cougars..and that was over a month ago.
Over hunting was not the problem, just an easy one to put the blame on.

It is criminal what is happening to many species due to the actions/inactions of WDFW.  :bash:

Yes we did. Actually pretty easy prey for a cat.

Well I was only about 29.5k shy on my tag budget this year. I guess there's always next year.

You are going to want to up that budget for next year, there were two other bidders in that high 20's range.
