.22 Rascal for kid?

Id go right for the 10/22. it will last them longer. that was my first gun when I was about 7 and I still have it.

When I let my kids shoot the 10/22's, my fingers hurt for a few days!

Why?

Probably from loading the magazine.

Exactly!  With both of them shooting, that's all I'm doing.

Brings back good memories with my dad. He learned the old if your going to shoot it you load the magazines trick lol. Me and my brother would keep empty mags always in his hands lol. Then we bought a loader and he was like what the heck! Lol

I kind of like the thought of one round at a time, for now. Then I’m fine with getting another gun

I my opinion the rascal is awesome , the best feature is that the bolt cocks the action unlike the cricket and some others . The other style on those little guns is the bolt just opens action to insert shell, then have to cock straight back by hand,  that extra step  seemed a little hard for kids . Rascal accu type trigger is nice for teaching new shooters the squeeze not pull yank concept and they are very accurate to boot !

That's a really good point, cocking the bolt on the Cricket is pretty tough for young kids.

So has anybody put a red dot scope on a rascal or cricket?
I was thinking even no magnification, just that dot might help

That's what I did for my kids to start. I just picked up a cheap $40 red dot and it worked really well. Having a really simple red dot helped them focus on good safety and fundamentals first while still allowing them to make more hits. Once they got the hang of the handling the gun I started working on proper sight alignment with irons, then later on with a scope.
