FPS with 08 General question
« on: March 24, 2009, 07:21:40 PM »
I got my 08 bowtech general a few days ago.  I really like how smooth and quiet it is, but i am a little confused by the fps I am getting.  Here are my bow stats:

Draw Length: 29.5"
Draw Weight: 70#
Total arrow weight: 366 grains with 2" Blazer vanes
Rest: Vaportrail drop away rest

No limb suppressors or string suppressors.

Right now the chrono we have says i am shooting 265fps.
Shouldn't this bow be shooting in the mid 280s fps with this set up?  May be the chrono we are using but I don't think it would be that off.

It sounds a little slow, have you checked the poundage on a scale and how far away from the crono are you?

My black ice with 29"/70lb draw will shot 420+gr arrows around 280fps and the general has about the same IBO speed. Make sure everything is tuned right and try shooting a different bow though the crono, I have seen them throw bad #'s and some times not even read :twocents:

What mods does the bow have? if its the smooth mods then its about right.

Took my arrow in and had it weighed at grizzly archery, turns out it weighs 415 grains   It all makes more sense now lol

A friend of mine is shooting a general with about the same results you have. I shoot a Mathews Drenalin 29in draw at 70# chrony at 279. We also chronyed a Hoyt Katera @ 70#, it shot 290 with a carbon arrow, not sure on exact weight of the arrow.

My general is set at 28" draw, 71# with an arrow that is 420 grains. It also has the smooth mods on it and the chronograph said it was shooting right around 260 fps.

You have to go with speed mods, with speed mods you should hit 280- 290fps with 366gr arrow, my Allegiance is set at 72lbs has speed mods and shoots 468gr arrow at 284fps.

Is there any noticeable difference in noise or vibration between the two mods that you have noticed?
