NW Washington help with maps

Hi all. I've been lurking around here and cannot seem to find the info I'm looking for, so any advice is much appreciated!

I am new to hunting in Washington.  Moved up here about 7 years ago from Texas, where I spent most of my life hunting. I have finally got a good grasp on the regs and how the GMUs work but I am struggling to find resources for maps. My biggest problem is finding out which areas are legal to hunt. I am wanting to kind of find some areas where I can establish myself/scout for the upcoming deer season. Unfortunately everyone I've asked in the area likes to give the cold shoulder. I dont want anyones spot...I want to make a spot of my own.

Can anyone recommend any resources for finding out property boundaries, land designations?

So far I've struck out looking through WDFW, USFS, and DNR.

Have you tried the GOHUNT website:

I'd also get a GPS.  Something like an Onyx map with a state chip to show all land ownership.

Sportsmans Warehouse (and I'm sure other places) also sell GMU maps.   You just have to buy the GMUs you're interested in.  I've found them useful.

I have tried GoHunt, didnt find it to useful except for learning about the different types of land available. I have looked into OnX but I have been reluctant to pull the trigger on it.

Do the GMU maps show land boundaries and the like? Could I pick those up and be able to look at them and say..this area is DNR, this area is open timber company land? I do know the GMUs I will wanting to be hunting!

Both DNR and USFS have maps for sale.  As for private lands use county web sites.  WDFW does not make or sale maps except for certain situations.  GPS and related apps for smart phones are handy.

The whole GMU is open to hunt.  Most public lands except for State Parks, National Park, and obvious lands (Schools and ect.)  Private lands you need owner permission.  Most timberland have signs on the gates clearly explaining access rules.  Use apps or county web sites to determine ownership.  There are some areas with firearm restrictions in place by WDFW or county.

DNR map will show DNR ownership.  They are available on line from DNR.

From experience, how do you guys like the App based maps compared to the physical maps out there?

Maps on your phone dont get all wet and crinkly.......
Takes a little getting used to but I love phone maps.

(No, I dont know the owner.   No skin in the game on that sale but you might drive a nice bargain.)

As far as finding out what timber company lands are open to hunt the easiest and most concrete way is to drive there and look for signs. Most are posted in some manner.

I agree BK!
I drive all day for work so I know of a couple areas on the peninsula that are obvious hunting areas. So far the only signs I've seen are "no target shooting". I'm also looking to trek a little deeper to escape some of the crowds!

You can go to one of the sporting goods stores, they have some good green trails and custom correct maps.  Those are pretty good for the area.  Lots of area to hunt, and a map can make it look overwhelming.

Oh, you're in Clallam.

Great site by my neighbor about who owns what out here on the NOP. There is a way to search with a map too.

I use ON X hunting. You can save a ton of way points. Camp sights, scat locations, rubs, stands, car parked, even marks your trail as you walk even without signal. Let’s face it, lots of WA timber don’t have very good signal. I know a ton of people who use it.

Shows private, public, burn zones, clear cuts, property owners names... it’s great and a great way to plan your hunt from your house before you go out!
