.243 bullet questions
«
on:
February 25, 2019, 08:15:07 AM »
I recently picked up a .243 and I’m wondering about a good factory load for both deer and coyotes. We’ve been shooting.243’s for years and had excellent results with 100 grain core lokt and to a lesser degree the federal blue box. Anyone have any experience with the 80 grain? Or is they’re a better dual purpose bucket I should be looking at in factory fodder?

Before I started reloading I shot the federal premiums with partitions for deer and was a good cartridge, spendy for coyotes though

Winchester Super-X Ammunition 243 Winchester 80 Grain Pointed Soft Point. To be honest I never took a deer with this round but did carry it around with me the couple seasons I tried modern but was never able to take a shot. It worked good for coyotes but then I switched to the Winchester 58g polymer tip for varmints. Now I reload all of my own ammo.

If I was shooting factory do all in. 243 it would be Winchester ballistic silver tips.

My daughter shoots Nosler Ballistic Tips, 95 grain that I load. They work well even though .243 isn't my favorite round by far.

I’m currently loading 95 grain Nosler Ballistic tips and I have run 85 Partitions and 85 Barnes TSX in the past. They all killed deer just fine and they all should be available in factory ammo. I’d pick up some of the Winchester Ballistic Silver Tip ammo and see how it shoots.

Federal loads 90 grain accubonds. That would seem to be a good load for game and I'm sure would kill coyotes.
I may give that a try in the 243 I bought for my kid.

It’s been a long time since I shot any factory rounds but when I did I liked the hornady offerings.

ive had the hornady 95 grain sst superformance shoot really well for me. Just over 3100fps also. The hsm 95 grain Vld’s shot good to, but they are expensive for coyotes

Federal blue box 100 gr. My son uses this ammo in Pennsylvania. Accurate and performs well on game.

I've been shooting the Remington Core Lokts in my .243 since the early 80's . No complaints and less than $20 per box.

On Factory loads I have used Federal Premium Trophy Copper 80gr. in the 243win. Worked great on mule deer. Now I reload a Barnes 80gr. TTSX bullet and have had good luck with it.
