A good quality pack that will hold your bow and pack out meat after you make a harvest. One with a good back pad and belly band. Don't forget to bring a few good game bags as well.

Dude, send me an email and I’ll send you my backcountry hunting checklist. It’ll give you a good idea of all the necessary items one needs when venturing into the elk woods with stick n string. From there, you can start some inquiries about recommended items in individual categories/items if you wish. RJ

Ok everyone, updated the rolling list.

Ideally I would be hunting for both blacktail and elk but realistically it will be exclusively blacktail in the cascades.

Range Finder; angle compensating
Binoculars 10x42s; best I can afford
Bino harness

Good boots
Mossy Oaks camo

Windchecker

Gamebags,
2 knives, and
paracord.
Little first aid kit just in case.

Allen wrench

GPS
Dry bag with a portable charger, space blanket, fire starter and lighter.
Survey flagging
Calls and bugle tube
Hydration bladder and water pump
Chapstick
Mini flashlight and two headlamps with spare batteries.

Toilet paper

I'm always a mile or two from camp or the truck so I carry everything to field dress , quarter and haul first load. Knife set , game bags,  small pack frame . I also have a good GPS and head light plus extra batteries in case my tracking takes me till dark. My first bow kill I was no where near ready for dressing and hauling . All other lists good advice .
