Lots of different ways to draw a tag in idaho folks.

Define lots.
Especially considering not a single draw for elk has been run yet this year

Disabled veteran, terminally ill, landowner, limited entry.  Few of those HAVE been drawn already.

Disabled veteran, terminally ill, landowner, limited entry.  Few of those HAVE been drawn already.
-Disabled vet applications closed on Jan 31 - 3 Resident and 1 NR are drawn per year assuming eligible apps are received
-There is no application period for child with life threatening medical condition - a form is submitted by qualifying organization and child
-Landowner (LAP) tags are drawn after the regular draw - usually July/August
-SuperHunt tags from the raffle are drawn in June and August
-Outfitter allocation tags are available to those who hire outfitters - appears IDFG is going to allocate 1 tag to 40-1 sep elk hunt this year, but it is not official yet - that drawing is concurrent with the normal draw dates

Those are all the ways I'm aware one could end up with a 40-1 bull tag.  Based on timing - it sounds like the OP may have a connection to disabled vet tag program.

So the only tag he could have is a disabled veteran tag? If that is the case, imagine the help you should get.  Either way, good luck on your hunt.

Some people are private people Jerry.  Some of the responses in this very thread would be enough to deter me from posting much more than he has :twocents:

Most of the time, I think these threads are an under-educated dumpster fire but I'm hopeful that the OP is receiving good PMs

Well if you come on here and get all secretive it’s gonna make people ask questions, if he got one of the disabled vet program tags then congrats to the guy otherwise there is no legit reason for him to have a tag yet this year

I mean the OP asked for anybody willing to help to PM him  :dunno:

That happens a thousand times a year.

Well if he’s already got an inside track on a tag ( likely a land owner I’m guessing) probably doesn’t actually need much help so the threads a bit odd to begin with.

I know of some smokers down there. Buddy of mine killed a 380 6x6 a few years ago on a LO tag. Units it’s not what it used to be for mule deer but it’s still a top elk unit for sure.dont waste the opportunity. Unless you really got a sweet in to the unlit it’s about like an OIL tag.

Lots of different ways to draw a tag in idaho folks.
No outfitter tags for this time frame, no landowners tags, and no auction tags. Using a super tag or getting one from entering the normal draw is the only way to get your hand on a tag to hunt 40-1.

Sounds like a super tag winner or the like?  Why keep it quiet??  :dunno:
Or maybe he paid a big “trespass” fee and somebody transferred a LAP tag to him. I hate to speculate but even living within 45 minutes of the area I don’t spend any time trying to learn the elk there because I know the reality is even as a resident I likely won’t ever draw a tag down that way

Or maybe he knows or is related to a landowner? I love the assumption he paid a BIG trespass fee. The csi analysts of Idaho hunting regulations explaining how or if he could draw a tag is also really helpful.  :chuckle: If you have information on the actual hunt answer the question. I hope the op has gotten some useful pms

This was a fun hunt.  Met some great folks and learned a few things.  Also if someone draws this tag or gets a landowner tag :) let me know and i would be happy to help.
Thanks,
Joe
