Has shed hunting come to this

A friend of mine on the east side was an avid shed hunter in the Leavenworth area. One of his favorite spots was an area above private property where part of the Camas elk herd  used to hang out. Well one of the private property owners started feeding the elk and now they stay on his property year round. He even went as far as to install video surveillance so he could watch when the bulls drop their antlers so he could go out and retrieve them. Evidently they shoot a few during the season. This just doesn't seem right to me.

I really try to contain myself when I see guys posting about going out antler hunting in January or feburary, your correct, they need to be left alone.  Guys are getting out way too soon.

Agree, even when I wait till late March and I see elk or deer in the woods I try to steer away from them without bugging.

If I am out early, which has been a few years, I glass an area very thoroughly before I hike through it. I am not really looking for sheds as much as I am trying not to bump any critters.

Interesting article on the WDFW website regarding winter feeding of wildlife, asserting that feeding is "discouraged". Depending on what they're using to attract the wildlife, they may be killing these animals.

I go in Jan and Feb, but I'm mostly just looking for last years drops that have been missed because they couldn't be seen in the brush. If I see Elk, I'm just taking mental notes on where I've seen them so I'll have a place to look in Late March and April.

Maybe we need to stay a shed season and require license to do it. Sounds like it needs regulated since everyone seems to be on different pages on this topic
