I sure do like my .260 mountain rifle.  It has put several deer in the freezer!  All of them have been bang flop with a 140gr bullet.  Closest was 175 yards, furthest was 396yrds.  Close second would be my sons 7-08 with 140gr bullets.

Probably my 6-284.  Top notch brass, it's easy to make and load for, they shoot fast, what's not to like.

The answer to this question is very dependent on the application of the rifle.

I’ve been liking my 223 lately. Cheap to load for and has been accurate as all get out.
Zero recoil or blast makes it fun too

man I cant choose just one all around.  For steel I love anything 6mm, especially anything based off the .308 case.

For a hunting caliber the 6.5-284 is high on the list but I'm a big fan of 30 cal holes so 300wsm is at the very tip top.  185 berger vld at 3100 is a wicked killer

I don’t think of the 6.5-284 as a short action cartridge. But that’s ok

I love my Daughters Ruger M77 Compact 7mm-08. Short and light but low recoil, it shoots 140 Partitions great.

Killed my first deer with a 300 Savage, so that one will always have a place on my favorites list.

Have always had a desire to own a BLR in 358 win as well.

Sure it is, or maybe I should say it can be.  You can do a 6.5-284 on a long or short action, they tend to shoot a little faster in a long action, if they are throated properly, because it frees up a little case capacity, but there isn't really a great deal of difference, in velocity, between one built on a SA versus LA, and even less when you use an extended mag box in the SA.

I say all that and my 6.5-284 is built on a Rem 700 LA.

I've always liked my 260, but my current favorite is my 25 Creedmoor. I've been loving the accuracy and ringing steel with it in the short time I've had it.

True story but it’s more better in a long action.

Plus I said i don’t consider it a short action... and what I say is the absolute fact... so there!  :chuckle:

My 375 BME is built on a short action single shot, does that count? :chuckle:

Otherwise I'd probably have to go 6mm BR. At the moment though I'm starting to really like a 6 Dasher that I've been playing with.

I think my 7x57 in a Model 70 featherweight is a short action.  Been carrying it since 1984.  It's a light rifle and the cartridge has enough juice to get the job done.

yep, mostly love them because of the rifles they're chambered in. The 99 is the nicest lever action in existence in my opinion. Anyone who has never carried one is missing out! They carry more like a 20 gauge shotgun than a typical rifle. The savage cartridges give you as much performance as you'll likely ever need, without excessive recoil or muzzle blast or noise.

My 250 is a mid 70s straight stocked 99a that will put 100gr nosler ballistic tips in an inch at 100yd, clocking 2900fps.  My 300 is a 99f made in 1960, i picked it up recently and will likely take the 250's place as my all around westside rifle, once i work up a good load for it. Just has a little more thump with a 150gr or 165gr slug, for when elk or bear might be the hr target.
