looks like all things hunting related, but guns is the big headline.

It was never a good place to buy a gun even before the recent CEO shenanigans.

You'd have to sit and wait at the counter because the "gun guy" of course wasn't there that day.

They would heavily discount some guns to get you in the store in the hope that you buy an overpriced mitt or soccer ball.

With so much competition from Cabelas/Sportsmens Warehouse they were already in trouble. Then the CEO decided to go long on stupid by betting against gun owners. Awful idea when so many gun owning dads are the ones that also buy the mitts and soccer balls.

Dick's. A demonstration of self-immolation while maintaining political correctness. Good riddance!

I imagine they stopped selling guns a long time ago.  Now they will just stop trying to sell them.

No big deal in my opinion.  REI is fine and pretty sure I read in today's paper that store performance at those Dicks locations that stoped selling guns is up 10 percent on average.  Better use of the sq ft I am sure.  When the general public thinks guns I doubt Dicks is top of mind, not even close.

I think it has a lot more to do with being totally outclassed by Cabelas and Bass Pro. No selection and their staff knows nothing.

If the Dick's brand survives at all, my guess is that they move into smaller locations and rebrand as an athletic apparel store. Way better margins on that stuff anyway.

The hunting/ fishing departments never really fit in at Dicks. It's an athletic supply store, not an "outdoor" store. A sea of Spandex with some guns in the corner. Merchandise needs to pay for the real estate it takes up, and I don't think I've ever seen someone shopping the gun counter at the local store.

I stopped buying from Dick's years ago. Isn't this about the 3rd time Dick's has announced they are getting out of the gun business?

Can I assume y'all have completely boycotted Walmart as well? I personally have not set foot in a Walmart in 20 years, but it seems to get a fair amount of mention in the (stereo) typical hunting/ gun rights demographic.

Hate hate hate walmart. will begrudgingly set foot if its the only gig for miles and absolutely need something, or if the wife is with me she'll go in and i'll wait in the car typically
