Bear Bait

No offense, but think its crazy to pay so much for 3 baits? As some have said, use local outlets.  Before the ban here, I would run 20-30 baits, all funded by local restaurants,  bakeries, and grocers. All free, all sights stocked daily, all with multiple bears. Would always start the sites with woodchuck, beaver, etc...

Gathering "free" bait isn't like it used to be. Grocery stores have policies that don't allow them to give away wastage, or it is sold to hog farmers on contract. As mentioned above there is a long line of people wanting bread and pastries from the bakeries. Couple years ago it was near impossible to get grease because of eco diesel contract sales, fortunately that has all but gone away so grease is available again.

Bottom line is my time is money, and I would much rather spend it hunting than running around town trying to get bait. Me and a couple partners kick in a couple hundred bucks and we're hunting with better bait than Joe down the road.

Free bait is nice, But it always amazes me how time consuming it is.

Sorry guys,  guess its been too many years here in washington since we could bait. Back in the 70's-80's, owning my own scratch bakery, with restraints both sides, and my wife running produce section at the local grocer, along with in-laws running large fruit orchards, bait was always in abundance, but those days are gone sadly..

Just a heads up. I run a large scale commercial pizza bakery in Spokane. We have a pig farmer that picks up our scrap/waste/culls, but more as a favor as they do not absolutely need it and some of the time they say it ends up in the compost pile. I have a buddy that used us for bear bait last year and they said it was the best bait they have used yet. Generally on any given pick up I can stack the back of your truck as high as you're comfortable with. If you have any interest, PM me and we can touch base. Good luck y'all!

Ready for the opener. Shops getting a little crowded but still stock piling. Truck load of bread from the bakery today had a bunch of sweets in it. Hoping to knock one down earl this year

Can’t get baits out yet. Buddy of mine glassed up a cinnamon bear last weekend up above the middle fork but I’m not holding my breath for much action before May. Might get lucky and have some early ones up where I’m at but there’s a lot of snow on the ridges yet so I’m guessing movement will be slow for a while

Yes, i saw one two days ago eating grass in a creek bed. Beautiful bear, watched him for about 15 minutes from 30 yards away. Western washington

I went up to one of my spots this weekend and was still driving through snow in certain spots on the road.  I'm not going to be in a rush to get my baits out...I'm not....I mean it, I'm really not....dang I want to get a barrel full of bait out.

We used to use Ten Dead Horses.  It came packaged in a cans packed in another can.  Until mixed it was relatively harmless.  After it was mixed... not so much.
