How are you going to do it? Jeep/other 4x4 or motorcycle? Did it on bikes last summer, had a blast. Planning on doing one of the others this year.

My father in law said he'd do a few segments with me via motorcyle. He's got a DRZ 400 and I've got a 1200gs adventure. I'm curious about what it would be like going up babyhead hill in 4 wheel rig. My wife said she would drive the support vehicle with her mom, so we got that going for us if we ever get it planned.

There will be places you'll not see in a vehicle cause it'll be to rough to take a vehicle through,we did come across a group of guys in jeeps, but I know they didn't go through some of the places we did. It would be fun in a jeep, but on a bike it's awesome. Going down the jungle into lake Chelan,no way could you do that in a jeep.

My wife said she would drive the support vehicle with her mom, so we got that going for us if we ever get it planned.

The group I went with decided to bypass babyhead hill, that bothered me so much I went and did it with another guy a month later. That was an adventure,I was on my Ktm 690,he was on a 1290. So about 230 in the afternoon he got a flat,we started from packwood and the plan was to do babyhead hill section only then into ellensburg only. So we got the flat fixed in an hour and took off for babyhead hill,so as we get up on top of a hill that I thought was babyhead hill, cause it was pretty rough going up it,it tops off and levels off for a little while,he pulls over and has another flat front tire. So now it's pitch ass black out,we're changing his tube and we hear some other bikes,he looks over and we can see their lights and then tells me,that's babyhead hill. Anyway we get going get to the bottom of it and off we go.....not even close to what I was expecting,I thought the long hill we went up earlier was babyhead,I thought babyhead hill was pretty easy, and we did it at night.  Sorry about the long winded reply. I still had a blast and can't wait for the next BDR that I'm going to do.

I've done sections of it but not the whole thing. Would like to make it a point to do the whole trip someday though.

Where is Babyhead Hill?

Babyhead hill is between packwood and ellensburg. It would be one of the toughest spots you'd do before heading down into ellensburg. 4-6" loose rocks, there's a couple other places like it,but I think babyhead hill has some turns in it,if you stop for any reason on a bike you're not going to make it,so you have to go back down and try again. I'm sure there are some that could start if they stopped, but most can't.

Is the Chopaka Grade Rd. still a part of it?  Heard they had closed that because it runs thru private ground.  If so Chopaka Lake would be side trip off the Toats Coulee Rd.

There’s an Oregon route too. You can keep on going south if you want.
Assuming you guys know about the video that was made documenting the WABDR?
:fire.:

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

There's all kinds of BDRs, Oregon,Idaho,Cali,Colorado, and a lot more states have one. Also the TAT which runs east to west or vice versa.
