Looking for maps to identify High Buck hunt areas.

I'm starting to research high buck units closest to E. WA. Whats a good resource for maps? My Atlas and Gazetteer gets me close, but the boundaries are hard to distinguish.

If you have OnXmaps hunt app, you can turn on the wilderness boundary setting and it will highlight them clearly for you. Otherwise, I'm sure you can order paper maps from the Forest Service that will show the boundaries.

There should be maps of each individual wilderness area. ALW, GPW, Pasayten, etc. Those are the maps I used to get. You can use something like Cal Topo for internet scouting. OnX might show the boundaries also. Not sure on that because I haven’t used it for that before.

I use OnX and Google Earth almost exclusively now for everything.

I do sometimes have paper maps for backup, but it is more likely to be used for backup TP these days than for navigating.

Better than pinecones, but I don't suggest the laminated maps.

I've always had a laminated Green Trails map with me of the area I was hunting to go with the OnX. I know the exact boundaries of most spots I hunt, but drew them in before laminating on a couple. It's nice to be able to sit down and have a "big picture" to go along with the smaller imagery view from the OnX.

If you want a physical maps of the wilderness area closest to you the best thing is to go to the local USFS ranger station and pick one up or go online and order one.

I have the Gaia GPS app, but it doesn't seem to have a wilderness overlay, or I'm not smart enough to figure it out.

Just download the Google earth section and it will show you all of WA's Wilderness areas (Remember they aren't all open).

You can also download other states too.
